Interlocks trap illegal conditions and prevent them from presenting themselves to the system. Interlocks are a built in function in Fastmatics, they merely need to be configured. For instance opening a valve when there is a large pressure differential can be detrimental to your equipment. A single interlock in Fastmatics can prevent the opening of the valve when there is a large pressure differential.
In addition the Interlocks can be used to control certain aspects of the system. In the program the Interlocks screen is named "Event Detection and Correct Action" since the processing of interlocks detects illegal conditions and creates events to make corrective action, the corrections occur before the setting of any signals to the system - so illegal conditions are trapped before they reach the equipment.
